What is Cultural Humility?

Cultural humility is about understanding that we may make assumptions or generalizations about other cultures or people and then engaging with this concept openly and respectfully.

How Does Cultural Humility Relate to Coaching?

Coaches who practice cultural humility work to increase self-awareness of their biases and perceptions and engage in a self-reflection process by learning how to set aside these perceptions so they may listen and learn from others. This increases the coach's capacity to assist their clients with humility and an open mindset.

This hour-long webinar will be moderated by NBHWC’s DEI Commission Chair, Leslie Atley, who will discuss and expand on the meaning of cultural humility and interview a panel of NBC-HWC’s about their experiences and insights on this topic. Methods to practically implement cultural humility practices will be highlighted.

After this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the meaning of cultural humility
  • Describe how cultural humility can lend to a positive impact on their health and wellness
  • Explain how cultural humility practices can increase self-awareness
  • Identify one way she/he/they will practice cultural humility in their coaching practice
