Martha Libster On October 9, 2021, Martha Libster, PhD, MSN, APRN-PMHCNS, APHN-BC, was inducted as Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing. The induction ceremony took place in Washington, D.C., at AAN’s annual conference.

Dr. Martha Mathews Libster is an international expert in nurse-herbalism, integrative nursing, traditional medicine, and botanical self-care. Supported by award-winning historical research, translational botanical science expertise, and collaborations with nurses and indigenous leaders internationally, Dr. Libster’s work advances the practice of the science and art of nurse-herbalism. It has been disseminated through publications, presentations, and community events on five continents. Dr. Libster focuses on practice innovations with supporting policy change and health care reform strategies that modernize historic and traditional healing practices, such as nurse-herbalism and traditional medicine. She advances sustainable and effective wellness practices over time that improve health and achieve health equity.

Dr. Libster is the founder and Executive Director of the Self-Care Institute at Golden Apple Healing Arts and its affiliated publishing house, Golden Apple Publications. She offers professional educational programs for nurses on integrative holistic care with a specialty in nurse-herbalism. Her Elements of Care© Nurse-Herbalist Certification Program is a hybrid, 3-module, 126-hour program for APRNs, RNs, LPNs, certified nursing assistants, nurse and health coaches and educators who love plants and want to safely and competently incorporate nurse-herbalism into their practice and classes. These programs qualify for the professional practice requirement of AHNCC board re-certification. Dr. Libster offers consultation through her website, drmarthalibster.com. She also is the director of the Bamboo Bridge Global Tea House, which meets quarterly to advance experiential education regarding indigenous knowledge systems and cultural diplomacy in healthcare.
