Overview:
The burden of chronic disease weighs heavily on not only the individual patients, but also on the community and US health care system. Creating programs that integrate holistic care into the primary care setting will promote a shift in practice as individuals in the community benefit from improved health behaviors. This session will describe the effects of a pilot nurse coaching program with review of the patient experience and health-related quality of life factors.
Learner Outcomes
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
Self-report an increase in knowledge regarding specific nurse coaching interventions utilized in the pilot program.
Describe patient satisfaction and HR-QoL results as contributing factors in the experience of nurse-coaching pilot program.
Describe how they may integrate nurse coaching into primary care programs within their communities.
Amanda Imai, DNP, RN, FNP-BC is an Assistant Professor in the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Western University of Health Sciences, College of Graduate Nursing. She received her ADN from Cypress College in 2000, BSN from CSU Fullerton in 2004, following that her MSN/FNP also at CSU Fullerton/UC Irvine in 2008, and her DNP at WesternU in 2021. Throughout her nursing career she has had various experiences in nursing to include telemetry, OR, occupational health, primary care, pediatrics, retail healthcare, chronic disease management, and population health. Currently she is practicing as an FNP in an occupational health at the Disneyland Resort.
Amanda Imai’s nursing career spans 22 years and she has worked as a Family Nurse Practitioner for the past 14 years. Holistic practice has been an integral part of her practice in a variety of settings. In her recent DNP work, she found that her passion for holistic care was demonstrated by her colleague in the position of the nurse coach. Her curiosity about the nurse coach role and how the nurse coach could affect the outcomes of patients in primary care sparked her initial interest in the assessment of the current practices within the program at WesternU Health.
